Since it snowed this week and we are learning all about colors, we painted some snow! We used water and colored it with food coloring, and used paint brushes to paint it onto the snow! We talked about how certain colors mixed together to make new colors. We also felt the snow with our hands and observed how snow melts into water. Talk about some winter fun!!
We started our new unit this week on "The World of Color!" Today, we did a science experiment using construction paper and sunlight! By sticking a sticky note onto construction paper and hanging it on our window, we predicted that the sunlight would make our paper change colors! We will be checking our paper for daily updates in the upcoming weeks. :)
Since Monday is MLK day, today at school we learned about who Martin Luther King Jr was and his impact on our nation's history. We watched a "Kid President" video about MLK, and then we did an "egg-speriment" about equality! We cracked open a brown egg and a white egg to find that despite their outside appearances, they were the same on the inside! We also did some Martin Luther King Jr coloring pages.
To continue our unit on Wind & Water, this week we read the book "The Snowy Day." We had discussions about snow and how it melts, and then made our very own snow paintings! Come check them out in our hallway! I also added the recipe for puffy snow paint at the end of this post in case anyone wants to try it out at home. :)
1 part shaving cream
1 part glue
*we also added glitter to ours to make it look like fresh, sparkling snow!*
-Mix together with a spoon and then use with a paint brush on paper!
Yesterday at school, we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany! Before Christmas break, each Preschooler decorated their own shoe to hang in the hallway. When we came back to school on Monday, we saw that the Magi had stopped to give us treats in our shoes! We ate our special candy treats with our lunch. We also had a blessing of our classroom. What a happy way to start 2018!
We had such a blast yesterday on our field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry! After doing our "Christmas around the World" unit and studying Finland's Christmas traditions, we got to see Finland's Christmas tree! We also experienced the Idea Factory where we got to play with water and different toys. Along with that, we got to see a chicken hatch from an egg and see baby chicks! What an amazing day. Thanks to all who chaperoned! :)
